ABOUT ME

Most of the people I work with don't arrive with one tidy problem to solve. They come with a kind of background noise — accounts scattered across a few places, decisions they've been meaning to revisit, a nagging sense that things might not be set up quite right. My job is to quiet that noise: to look at everything together, make sense of how the pieces fit, and make sure someone is paying attention to the details you don't have the time to watch.

I'm Luke Johnson, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and the founder of Boreal Advisors. I've worked in the financial industry since 2008, and in 2019 I started Boreal as an independent firm so I could advise clients on my own terms — as a fiduciary. That word matters: it means I'm obligated to put your interests ahead of my own, every time, with no products to push and no quotas to hit. Just the advice I'd give my own family.

I keep my practice deliberately small so I can actually know the people I work with. We build a plan around your goals, and I stay in your corner between meetings — watching for what's changed and what needs attention. When I ask clients what they got out of working together, the answer is rarely a specific investment or a single decision. It's that they finally feel confident they're doing the right thing, with someone looking out for them.

A little about me when I'm not at the office: I'm a Shoreview native and a Mounds View Mustang through and through. I headed north to play baseball at the University of Minnesota Duluth, where I met my wife Julie, also a college athlete (hockey). Career goals eventually brought us back to the Twin Cities. These days you'll find me with my family — Julie, our son Dominik, and our two Mini Australian Shepherds, Gus and Doc Holiday — or out on the golf course. I'm an outdoorsman at heart, and Minnesota offers no shortage of ways to enjoy it.
